Oral Microbiome and Health
The oral microbiome is the makeup of bacteria, fungi, and viruses in one’s mouth. There are over 700+ species of bacteria associated with the oral microbiome and each individual has on average 100 – 200 unique species.
The oral microbiome plays a vital role in oral and overall health & disease. Oral bacteria help with breaking down food, producing vitamins like vitamin B12 & K, and fighting off infection.
Most oral diseases including cavities, gum disease, and halitosis (bad breath) are driven by an overabundance of pathogenic (harmful) bacteria leading to an imbalance (dysbiosis) in the oral microbiome.
The mouth is the gateway to the body. Poor oral health is associated with a increased risk for systemic conditions including Alzheimer’s, diabetes, cardiovascular disease, gut disorders, and adverse pregnancy outcomes. You can’t be healthy without a healthy mouth.

About @BristleHealth

Oral health made for you, delivered to you, and owned by you

Their vision is a new kind of care that prioritizes preventing disease instead of reactively treating it

Our mouths are the primary entry point for our bodies, serving as the first line of defense against pathogens or, in cases of poor oral health, “opening the gates” for serious infections and other conditions. So then why do we treat our oral health as an afterthought? We’ve made incredible strides in tackling some of the biggest problems in healthcare while forgetting the one literally right under our nose.

Through their tests and insights, Bristle provides everyone with the tools they need to improve their oral health.

When our whole experience revolves around dental drills, cavity fillings, and root canals, it’s not surprising that people prefer to blissfully ignore the state of their mouths.
