Meet The Mindful Doctor
Dr. Seth Gilson,
D.M.D.
Biological · Biomimetic · Holistic Dentist
I practice dentistry with a simple belief: the mouth is part of the body, and the way we treat it should support your health for the long term.
My goal is not simply to fix teeth. It is to understand the bigger picture, preserve what nature gave you, and help you make informed decisions about your oral health.
My Story
Dentistry became a way to think about health differently.
I was born and raised in South Florida, studied biology at the University of Florida, and earned my dental degree from Nova Southeastern University College of Dental Medicine. I have been in private practice since 2011.
Over the years, my education has moved far beyond simply learning how to repair teeth. I became increasingly interested in biological dentistry, biomimetic restorative dentistry, airway and TMJ health, the oral microbiome, nutrition, and the many ways the mouth interacts with the rest of the body.
Today, I am a partner at Our Holistic Dentistry in Aventura, Florida, where I combine modern clinical dentistry with conservative treatment, thoughtful materials, advanced technology, and patient education.
I want patients to understand why something is happening, what their options are, and how the decisions we make today may affect their teeth years from now.
My Philosophy
We cannot be healthy without a healthy mouth.
“The best dentistry isn’t about removing more tooth. It’s about preserving more of what nature gave you.”
How I Practice
Three lenses. One treatment philosophy.
These are not separate styles of dentistry. Together, they guide how I evaluate a problem, choose materials, preserve tooth structure, and think about care over the long term.
Biological Dentistry
I consider how dental materials, chronic infection, inflammation, and treatment choices may interact with the rest of the body. The focus is on biocompatibility, thoughtful protocols, and minimizing unnecessary exposure whenever possible.
Biomimetic Dentistry
I aim to preserve healthy tooth structure and vitality whenever possible, manage decay and cracks carefully, and use modern adhesive techniques that respect the biomechanics of the natural tooth.
Holistic Dentistry
Teeth do not exist in isolation. I consider the oral microbiome, nutrition, gums, airway, sleep, bite, TMJ, lifestyle, and health history while giving patients the education needed to make informed decisions.
Dental Longevity
How do we help this tooth last as long as possible?
That question influences almost every restorative decision I make.
Dentistry can become a cycle of progressively larger restorations if we only focus on repairing the immediate problem. My preference is to think further ahead: preserve healthy structure, protect tooth vitality when possible, control stress within the tooth, and choose treatment that supports long-term function.

Always learning. Always refining the approach.
Dentistry continues to evolve. I believe the responsibility of a clinician is to keep learning, question assumptions, and integrate better ideas when they genuinely improve care.
Biology First
My undergraduate education in biology shaped the way I think about the body as an interconnected system rather than a collection of isolated parts.
Clinical Dentistry
I graduated from Nova Southeastern University College of Dental Medicine and entered private practice in South Florida.
Biological & Whole-Body Dentistry
My continuing education expanded toward oral-systemic health, biocompatible materials, safe amalgam removal, oral microbiome care, airway, TMJ, and regenerative surgical techniques.
Biomimetic Dentistry
Biomimetic restorative principles added another essential layer: preserving tooth structure and vitality while rebuilding teeth to function more like natural teeth.
The Mindful Doctor
Today, my clinical practice, education, podcast, and content share one goal: make dentistry more thoughtful, transparent, and connected to the bigger picture of health.
Beyond the Operatory
Why I created Mindful Doctor.
Health decisions become better when people understand the reasoning behind them.
Mindful Doctor grew out of my desire to create a place for deeper conversations about dentistry, whole-body health, wellness, personal growth, and the choices we make every day.
Through The Mindful Doctor Podcast, educational content, lectures, and conversations with clinicians and thought leaders, I explore ideas that can help patients and professionals think more critically about health.
Mindfulness is also part of my personal life. Yoga, breathwork, movement, and intentional self-development influence the way I try to show up as a dentist, educator, leader, and human being.
What Matters to Me
Care should feel thoughtful, not transactional.
Do as little dentistry as necessary.
When a tooth can be responsibly preserved, I would rather conserve healthy tissue than remove more simply because a more aggressive treatment is available.
Understand before you decide.
I want patients to know what I see, what I am concerned about, what the alternatives are, and the tradeoffs that come with each option.
Treat the person, not the procedure.
Your goals, health history, concerns, lifestyle, and previous experiences matter. Good dentistry begins by listening before treating.
